Alexis “Alex” Guigou, the last of the 20 original Waldenses who helped found the town of Valdese, has died at the age of 101. Guigou was 5 years old when he came to America in 1893 aboard a wooden ship with his parents. The French speaking Waldenses came from the Cottian Alps of Italy. The Tryon Town Council will meet tonight at 7:30 at the Town Hall L „ The auditions for "When We Are Married" will be held tonight. Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Tryon Fine Arts Center. There will be lots of children in Tryon on Saturday — which is “Super Saturday." It's a day where all children up to age 99 have a good time and enjoy the performances. This year the date falls on St. Patrick's Day. so there will be a few more leprechauns about. Meet Tuesday The Tryon Lions Club will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Western Steer in Columbus Dr. Thomas M. LaBreche, a licensed Psychologist, will be the speaker. Dr. LaBreche is with the Foothills Psychological Associates in Rutherfordton The Rev. J. J. Powell is in charge of the program A Nev/ Arrival Bucky and Diane Arnett of Campobello. S.C. are parents of a son, Jeffrey Edward, born Monday, March Sth at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. He weighed six pounds and five ounces. He has a brother, Garrison, who is five years old and a sister. Ivy, who is 19 months old. The maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Thompson of Tryon. Beekeepers Club The Foothills Beekeepers Club will meet Tues., March 13 at 7:30 p m in the P.C. Agriculture Building in Columbus Jack Hanel, N.C Bee Inspector, will speak about mite problems in bees. Anyone interested in Beekeeping is welcome. Couples Bridge Red Fox Couples Bridge will meet March 14 at 4 p.m. Please call the club for reservations. Carolina Camera Club Meets Tuesday Carolina Camera Club, formerly Tryon Photographic Society, will meet Tuesday, March 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mural Room of Tryon Fine Arts center. The first part of the program will be the critiquing of members' slides. Remember to bring additional slides to be critiqued next month. This month's main program will be a demonstration of "Still Life Photography” by Allan Boas and Princess Ransom, using the "Black Box" and other techniques to produce outstanding pictures. Guests interested in photography are welcome On Saturday, March 24, at 9:30 a m a workshop will be held in the Mural Room of the Fine Arts Center where members and guests may try their cameras and the learned techniques of still life photography. National Employ The Older Worker Week “National Employ the Older Worker Week” will be celebrated in North Carolina the week of March 11-17, 1990 During this week, companies and agencies in the public and private sector are asked to direct special attention to the many skills and abilities and employment needs of persons 55 years old and older. Pet Logs Sold Assets of Pet Logs, Inc. of Landrum were purchased on March 1st by Zema Corporation of Raleigh. Pet Logs, Inc. manufactures red cedar dog houses, bird houses and compost bins. Zema is a national producer of products for pets including fiea and tick shampoo, sprays, dips, grooming products and electric flea traps. According to Hal Bowman, president, Zema plans to expand the Landrum facility as new products and distribution are developed. "The Pet Logs products are attractive and unique.” said Bowman. "We are pleased with our new employees and excited about the potential of using our selling and distrubtion system to help increase the volume from the Pet Logs plant." Zema currently manufactures over 50 products sold under the Zema and Pulvex trade names in pet stores and pet departments of grocery, drug and general merchandise stores. The company was a part of Burroughs Wellcome, the Research Triangle Park drug manufacturer, until purchased in 1980 by an investor group led by Bowman and Zema Executive Vice-President.
